It's fun, and it's nifty, but it's pretty slow. With an acoustic coupler, it's probably doing 4800 or 9600 baud, max. It limits email size to 8000 bytes, I tried knocking it down to 2000 bytes to see if that made a difference. I can make some changes on my side as well - I'm filtering mail to folders using procmail, then any mail that slips through the cracks gets cc:ed to my pocketmail account. A couple of mailing lists skammed my account, and I ended up holding the Pocketmail up to my cell phone for about 10 minutes. I could set a couple more filters to catch those before they go out. I've got 30 days to try this thing out, think I'll give it a couple of weekends before I make any decisions. I still have the 14.4 modem, which seems pretty slick, although it doesn't have the convenience of the Pocketmail system. Or, maybe I'll have to get one of those new wireless palms, eventually... :) --k
